- Hardening the 'Soft targets'

In recent years, the World has witnessed an upsurge in mass casualty terrorist attacks in the heart of business communities. More recent examples are the explosions in London in July 2005, the failed 'Tiger Tiger' nightclub attack in London in 2007, the Mumbai attacks in 2008 and the Westgate Shopping Mall attacks in Nairobi earlier this year. There is strong evidence that schools, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, airports (landside), train, marine and bus systems, shopping centres, tourist attractions, museums, universities and colleges, leisure centres, places of worship, cinemas and theatres and hospitals are the attractive 'soft targets' that terrorists seek and decision-makers need to think differently and plan for heightened resilience.

This forum brings together leaders in resilience development that hardens vulnerable targets and is a critical event for those who are charged with implementing protective strategies.
